Buying this as a duet is smart. Book one is a cliffhanger. Trust me, you'll want book two right away. Great depth of complex characters that are realistic, have real issues, challenges and strengths and you feel like you'd like to know them.North Star:
At the start of the book, Alex has lost his married twin sister and best friend in a car accident. He becomes guardian of their son, Aiden. He is trying hard to be strong for Aiden, adjust his successful career to fewer hours away from home and give Aiden a comfortable home where he feels loved.
Kayla was badly burned in a relationship the summer before, and it wasn't the first time. She feels she might not be able to hold any man's attraction for a lifetime and isn't interested in trying again. She is a newly graduated teacher, subbing in Aiden's kindergarten class for a few weeks.
This couple has a lot of past to struggle through, as does the adorable Aiden. There are many emotional scenes that will pull you in and make you feel their pain. The love story is very slow growing, but the heat is always there to temper their caution.
This book does end in a cliffhanger. The conclusion is in the book True North
True North:
This book picks up after the suspenseful conclusion of book one. This story was fast paced, with more depth into characters from book one. It will hold your attention, so start it when you have reading time.
Alex and Kayla are already deeply in love, and while their love for each other, and little Aiden, shines through in the story, this book turns to solving a couple mysteries and suspense with danger. I can't say a lot about it without giving away plot twists. It does finish their happily ever after. There is even a fun glimpse into the future in the epilogue.

Amazing series! I highly recommend it!
North Star
I can not say enough about this book & these characters! Amazing debut novel by M.E. Montgomery! I was drawn in from the first few pages & couldn't stop!!
Kayla is broken by the one she thought was her soul mate! Crushed! Destroyed!! Betrayed! She leaves everything to start all over! Everything changes when she falls into Alex. Alex is amazing! He's raising his sister's little boy & is truly a dream!
There are twists & turns throughout the book! I didn't see most of them coming! As the book goes on, we start uncovering secrets & discovering some truths! When tragedy strikes again, can Alex survive it? Does he really have to endure more hell?? There were times I could have strangled a few of the characters!!
One thing I LOVED in this book was instead of letting misunderstandings drag on & on, they were quickly fixed & talked through! Kayla & Alex are both super strong characters!
There is a cliffy BUT book #2 is out so you can find out what's going on asap!! Great job! <3
True North
WOW!! Amazing story! I thought I loved & adored Kayla & Alex from North Star but now I FLOVE them!! They are just the sweetest couple!!
This book has even more twists & turns!! My head was spinning at some points because so much was happening! I love books that keep me on edge! This book did that! My emotions were all over the place too! I didn't ugly cry but there were parts that my heart shattered & I was fighting back tears!
By the end of the book, I wanted to jump in the book & high five some of them, strangle & slap some of them & hug Aiden so hard!! Amazing job ME Montgomery on another home run!! I would love to read more from Aiden to see if he ends up being the stand-up man his "Daddy" wanted him to be!

This book had me running with every emotion! I smiled, laughed, cried. It was a really good read. It is a cliffhanger though, so I'm off to read book 2!
Kayla has had it rough with men. Past relationships have left her to not trust men. She believes she is damaged goods. Alex is dealing with the death of his sister and best friend and is now left to raise their son. Both Kayla and Alex have dealt with a lot of loss and issues and are struggling to move on. When they first meet there is an instant connection, but Kayla isn't ready to meet a guy. A week later, they meet at Aidan's school. Kayla is his teacher. Sparks again fly. They take things slow and start to date. Eventually Kayla tells Alex her story and he can't believe what she has all gone through. Meanwhile, Aidan's grandmother is trying to break up Kayla and Alex and wants to get custody of Aidan so she can take over her son's wealth. This was a great start to the series.
True North
What a great ending! This book was a great part 2! It has the love story as well as the mystery wrapped up within the love story! Loved it!
Kayla and Alex are happy together and then people from their past show up. Kayla's ex-boyfriend comes back into her life and tells her things she can't believe. Alex and Kayla move forward after her horrible accident knowing that danger is still lurking. Through a strong support system, Alex and Kayla work to find out what was behind the death of Alex's sister and her husband and what secrets are lurking out there to tear them apart.
This was a great read. Couldn't put it down. Great part 2. I'd love to read more about this group of friend!
A great love story with action! Every word written makes you crave more. Alex and Kayla's story is timeless. The action keeps you guessing until the end. Looking forward to more from this author!

Kayla and Alex have an wonderful romance while they go through some issues and tragic events in their lives. Kayla is a wonderful young school teacher with a loving heart and constantly helps others with no thought to herself. Alex is a talented architect who has changed his life for his orphaned nephew. Alex is so strong and romantic with Kayla. This 2 book series is suspenseful and romantic with excellent writing that kept me reading straight through.
