The Deadenders Bruce Jones 9781453808856 Books

This book is about a gang of boys called the Deadenders. When they are twelve, something horrific happens. Now middle-aged, they are once again being haunted by the event. Richard, the writer of the group, gets the brunt of it, with a monster that seems to invade his house at night and threatens him. He is the one who is trying hardest to get to the heart of the mystery, slowly remembering the summer day that changed all their lives.

The characters in this book are extremely realistically drawn and gripping, and their relationship is heartfelt and real. And it doesn't lack for chills! There are some very scary sequences with Richard going down into his dead parents basement to confront the thing that won't leave him alone.

There is also romance and some very sexy scenes between Richard and his childhood sweetheart, but the heart of this book lies in the deep friendship Richard shares with Scroogie, Shivers, and Maser, a doctor who may not be what he appears to be. There is a magic book and buried secrets and at times this book reminded me of something Stephen King would write, except it probes the psyche in ways that King never did...

The Deadenders Bruce Jones 9781453808856 Books Reviews

I wasn't sure about the beginning, but boy does it change pace. This a thought provoking read, a page turner for sure!! If you like a suspenseful, creepy read, then this is your book!!!!
I enjoyed reading this book. A little slow at times but still interesting. I definitely didn't see this particular ending coming. Was quite a surprise.
I tried for two weeks to read this book & like it. Halfway thru I finally accepted that its just not gonna happen. I usually read 2-4 books a week on average so only getting halfway thru after 2 weeks is very uncommon. I only persisted in trying to finish it because of all the glowing reviews.

I enjoy a good build-up like anybody but, it should keep you engaged. I fell asleep EVERY TIME I picked this book up. The insignificant & redundant information just bored me to tears. For example, how many times must the type of a "swivel chair" be mentioned?? Ugh. And referring to something by a name & not explaining what it meant until chapters later, really? Why?

I saw other reviewers likening this book to Stephen King, unless they meant Tommyknockers (SNORE), I'm not seeing it.

I don't usually review books I find unfavorable but I felt a need to fill in others so they don't come away feeling like I did. To strike a slight balance since most of these reviewers gush on in a way that leaves me feeling as though they read a completely different story than I did, or tried to. You may like it but, you may not.
This book has a surprise twist at the end. I enjoyed reading it and was totally surprised at the ending. I think most readers will enjoy it and be as surprised as I was at the end.
from all the twists and turns of the fast-paced and eerie last half of the book. A psychological maze that you will never begin to guess makes this a horror novel you don't want to miss.
This was a really good story. A little bit drawn out at times, but worth reading. The twists involved kept me guessing, and I did not see the ending early, AT ALL! Nice work by the author. There were a few typos, but while annoying, not detrimental to my rating. I recommend reading it!
I have already downloaded two other books by this author, Could not put deadenders down--a fabulous horror story that starts in the childhood of 4 boys who maintain their friendship into adulthood where the evil sown by the boys comes to fruition with a vengence. One of the best horror stories I have read in a long time and am going directly into the two others I have downloaded.
