Not useful as a reference. Even accounting for date of original publication (lacking in even circa 1960 political correctness), this glorifies the life of once-elite caddish men. Surely there was more?Says there were two types that settled colonial America: Puritans and Cavaliers. Lost me right there. There were more Ulster Scotts (Protestants, yes, Puritans, no) in Pennsylvania alone, than in the two groups mentioned as the only two categories. Also, Puritans included women and children. Cavalier denotes men only, so far as I can tell from this book. Be quaint in a hard copy. One commonality, sometimes when society changed in Europe, people had to uproot themselves to live in the woods and swamps across a huge ocean with virtually nothing known of it...if they wanted to live the life they imagined they could.

This is an ok kind of book, but I didn't feel that it was really that well written. It could have gotten into more depth, but what do you want for the price..
